Dr. Belma Karini was born in Albania in 1988. After his undergraduate studies, in 2012 he successfully completed his medical training, which he began in 2006 at the Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, and received the title of doctor. Between 2013 and 2017, he completed his training as a specialist in ophthalmology at the Training and Research Hospital of the University of Health Sciences in Istanbul and became an ophthalmologist in 2017. During the same period he successfully completed the examinations of the International Council of Ophthalmology.

Lens Implantation – What Exactly Is It?
It is a simple, painless outpatient procedure that we at the MAPA Eye Clinic use for those clients who not only need glasses for reading, but also for distance – this “presbyopia” usually occurs in people from 45 years of age. The procedure only takes a few minutes and is performed using local anesthesia. The first eye is operated on, followed by the second a few days later. One speaks here of the so-called “Refractive Lens Exchange”. During a lens implantation procedure, our specialists remove the original lens using the classic method, phacoemulsification, and place a new multifocal lens in its place. That gives you three advantages. Because this multifocal lens improves your vision at all three distances – in the near, far and intermediate areas! It enables you to see the whole picture clearly and distinctly, usually without glasses.

FEMTO – What exactly is it?
Originally, the femtosecond laser was used for the laser correction of ametropia. Today, it also ensures increased safety during refractive lens exchange and cataract surgery. The femtosecond laser CATALYS was the only laser – in contrast to many other lasers that are used in refractive surgery – specially designed for the operation of lens replacement. The laser replaces the surgeon’s scalpel and thus ensures an unprecedented level of precision and safety in the procedure. The classic method of phacoemulsification requires the surgeon to incise the cornea with a scalpel and create a circular opening in the front of the lens capsule. The hard lens is then shredded with ultrasound and suctioned off, after which the new artificial lens can be implanted. With the Femto method, the CATALYS laser takes over these cuts and the shredding of the lens, which makes the entire procedure much gentler and more precise. Here, too, you benefit from all three advantages thanks to the multifocal lens! Your eyesight is clearly improved at all three distances – in the near, far and intermediate range. The Femto thus enables the patient to see the entire image clearly and distinctly, usually without glasses.
