Cardiovascular Treatments in Turkey from £4,200

Coordinated Heart Care in Istanbul

Comprehensive cardiovascular treatment planning for international patients, including CABG surgery, angioplasty, valve procedures, and arrhythmia management in accredited Istanbul hospitals.

Cardiovascular treatment planning requires much more than a single appointment. That is why Mapa Health focuses on bringing together report review, hospital selection, procedure planning, accommodation, and post-operative organization in one clear pathway for international patients.

Our cardiovascular care includes CABG surgery, coronary angioplasty and stenting, heart valve repair or replacement, and arrhythmia treatment / pacemaker or ICD implantation — all coordinated through a single dedicated team.

Why Istanbul Is a Trusted Destination for Cardiac Care

Turkey hosts more than 50 documented clinical standards cardiac surgery centers, many performing over 1,000 open-heart surgeries per year. Istanbul alone accounts for roughly half of Turkey's cardiac volume, with teams participating in international registries (STS, EuroSCORE). Package prices for CABG, TAVI and complex electrophysiology procedures are materially lower than Western Europe or the United States, while the devices and imaging are identical: Edwards SAPIEN / Medtronic Evolut for TAVI, Abbott / Medtronic drug-eluting stents, Boston Scientific / St. Jude pacemakers and ICDs. Mapa Health partners only with Turkish Ministry of Health-licensed cardiac centers that meet AHA practice guidelines.

Every plan starts with a free case review of your ECG, echocardiogram and angiography report, returned with a written heart-team recommendation within 48 hours. No upsells on admission; no surprise catheter or consumable invoices.

Compare Cardiac Procedures: CABG vs PCI vs TAVI vs EP Ablation

Cardiac interventions are chosen by a heart team using evidence-based criteria — SYNTAX score for coronary disease, STS / EuroSCORE for surgical risk, LVEF and NYHA class for heart failure. Side-by-side comparison of the main procedures offered at our Istanbul partners:

Procedure Indication Approach Hospital Stay Recovery
CABGMulti-vessel coronary disease, diabetesSternotomy / off-pump / MIDCAB5–7 days6–12 weeks, cardiac rehab
Angioplasty & Stenting (PCI)Single / double vessel disease, ACSRadial catheter (preferred)1–2 days3–7 days
Surgical ValveSevere stenosis/regurgitation, young/low-riskSternotomy or mini-thoracotomy5–7 days6–12 weeks
TAVI (transcatheter)Severe aortic stenosis, high/intermediate surgical riskTransfemoral catheter2–3 days1–2 weeks
EP Ablation / Pacemaker / ICDAF, SVT, VT, brady-/tachy-arrhythmiasFemoral/jugular catheter + pectoral pocket1 day1 week

Understanding the Main Cardiac Conditions

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD): cholesterol plaques narrow coronary arteries. Single-vessel disease is usually PCI; multi-vessel or left-main disease often CABG (especially with diabetes).
  • Valvular heart disease: aortic stenosis (most common in >65), mitral regurgitation, and bicuspid aortic valve. Choice between surgical repair/replacement and TAVI is guided by age, surgical risk and anatomy.
  • Arrhythmias: atrial fibrillation (AF), supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia (VT), AV blocks. Treated by EP ablation, pacemaker, or ICD depending on rhythm and ejection fraction.
  • Heart failure (HF): reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) or preserved (HFpEF). CRT-D devices are indicated in selected HFrEF with wide QRS.

Pre-op Readiness: What to Send Before Travel

  • Recent ECG (within 30 days) and Holter if arrhythmia suspected.
  • Echocardiogram report with ejection fraction and valve measurements.
  • Coronary angiography DICOM files or report if available (improves heart-team review quality).
  • Full medication list (anticoagulants, antiplatelets, beta-blockers, statins, diuretics).
  • Comorbidities — diabetes, CKD, COPD, prior stroke — documented with latest labs.

Frequently asked questions about cardiac treatments in Turkey

Decision support and safety questions — from the Heart Team to rehab planning.

CABG, stent (angioplasty), pacemaker or valve — which treatment fits my case?

It depends entirely on the diagnosis and is NOT a patient choice: CABG for three-vessel disease or left main stenosis, stent for one- or two-vessel disease with favourable anatomy, pacemaker for symptomatic bradycardia, ICD for life-threatening tachyarrhythmias, valve replacement/repair for severe valvular dysfunction. This decision is made by the "Heart Team" (cardiologist + cardiac surgeon) based on echocardiography, coronary angiography and symptoms.

How safe is cardiac treatment in Turkey?

In JCI-accredited cardiac centres, on par with Western European standards. What to look for: surgeon experience (at least 500-1,000 procedures), hospital volume (at least 200-300 cardiac procedures per year), 24/7 emergency ICU, clear emergency protocols, and transparently available mortality statistics. A reputable clinic provides this information in writing.

How many days should I plan to stay?

CABG/valve: 7-10 days (1-2 days ICU + step-down ward + hotel recovery). Stent: 2-3 days. Pacemaker/ICD: 3-4 days. Complications can extend the stay.

What about rehabilitation after treatment?

After CABG/valve surgery, a 3-4 week rehab stay is recommended — usually back at home after the return flight. Discuss rehab with your GP at home before travelling to Turkey — many insurance plans reimburse rehab even after treatment abroad. After a stent or pacemaker, outpatient follow-up is sufficient.

How do costs compare between Turkey and Western Europe?

In Western Europe: usually covered by statutory or private insurance. Turkey self-pay: CABG £10,320-£21,500, stent £4,300-£10,320, pacemaker £4,300-£10,320, ICD £10,320-£17,200, valve replacement £12,900-£25,800. What to check: number of bypass grafts/stents/devices agreed in writing, hospital stay days included, manufacturer warranty on devices.

What if my cardiologist at home advises against it?

This concern should be taken very seriously when it comes to cardiac treatment. Specific medical concerns (excessive risk, complication management in an emergency) must be resolved before travelling. For more general concerns ("not in Turkey"), a second opinion with a Turkish clinic (online consultation) can be useful. Crucial: emergency infrastructure in Turkey must be adequate, not just the surgical quality.

What happens if I have an unexpected complication after I return home?

You have 24/7 WhatsApp access to our coordinator team for 12 months post-procedure. For urgent issues, we first triage by video, and if local emergency care is needed, we provide the relevant operative records to your local provider in your language within hours. Mapa Health does not cover the cost of unrelated local emergency care, but actively coordinates clinical communication so your home-country doctor has complete information.

What languages does the medical and coordination team speak?

Our coordination team operates in 13 languages including German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic and Persian. For clinical conversations (surgeon consultations, anesthesia briefing, discharge discussion), we provide a medically-trained interpreter in your language. Written documents (consent forms, operative reports, prescriptions) are translated into your language on request.

  • Hospital stay and recovery length vary significantly between procedures
  • Cardiac patients may need companion support during travel and recovery
