All-on-6 Turkey vs Hungary: An Honest Comparison for UK Patients

NHS rules, two trips, implant brands and zirconia bridges: All-on-6 in Turkey or Hungary for UK patients, compared honestly by Mapa Health.

All-on-6 Turkey vs Hungary: An Honest Comparison for UK Patients

Transparency notice: This guide is written by Mapa Health, a patient coordinator for treatment in Istanbul licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health (licence AK-0456). We arrange implant treatment in Turkey, not in Hungary. If you are weighing All-on-6 Turkey vs Hungary, you should still hear honestly where Hungary has advantages.

Quick answer

For UK patients the comparison is simpler than for patients from Germany. The NHS pays for implants in neither country, and since Brexit there is no refund route for private dental work in Hungary. Both countries need two trips by plane. Hungary's real advantages are a slightly shorter flight and clinics with a long history of British patients. For both jaws with branded implants and a zirconia bridge, Turkey is in our experience usually the clearly cheaper option.

At a glance

NHS and dental implants: generally not funded, at home or abroad.
NHS refund for private implant work in Hungary: no, the EU cross-border route closed for UK patients at the end of 2020.
Trips: usually two in both countries, with three to six months of healing in between.
At Mapa Health: first trip about three days, second trip about five days.
Implants at Mapa Health: Straumann, Nobel Biocare and SWISS, with a final bridge in zirconia.
Mapa Health rating: 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 108 verified reviews, more than 500 patients since 2020.

What the NHS pays

Dental implants are generally not available on the NHS. They are offered only in rare clinical cases, for example after mouth cancer surgery or serious injury. For most people who have lost their teeth, the NHS option is a removable denture.

Before Brexit, UK patients could reclaim part of the cost of some planned treatment in another EU country. That route closed for UK residents on 31 December 2020. The S2 route that remains covers public providers, not private dental clinics. In practice the NHS does not reimburse private implant treatment in Hungary or in Turkey.

German patients can still claim a fixed insurance contribution towards a bridge in Hungary. UK patients cannot. That changes the comparison considerably in Turkey's favour.

Two trips in both countries

Unlike veneers, All-on-6 cannot be completed in one stay, wherever you go. The implants need to fuse with the bone before the final bridge is fitted. This usually takes three to six months, longer in the upper jaw than in the lower. In the meantime you wear a temporary bridge.

At Mapa Health (licence AK-0456) the first trip takes about three days: examination, 3D scan, placing the implants and a check. The second trip takes about five days: checking the healing, scanning, try-in and fitting the final zirconia bridge.

From the UK both countries mean two flights. Budapest is about an hour and a half closer each way. Over two trips that is a real but modest difference, and many UK airports fly direct to both cities.

Implant brand and bridge material

With All-on-6 the implant brand matters more than with a single tooth, because six implants carry a whole bridge and spare parts should stay available for many years. Mapa Health uses implant systems from Straumann, Nobel Biocare and SWISS. Which system you receive is fixed in writing before treatment.

At Mapa Health the final bridge is made of zirconia, which is very fracture resistant and does not discolour. In Hungary and in Turkey, ask specifically whether the final bridge is zirconia or acrylic teeth on a frame, because this makes a large difference in price and durability.

Whether four or six implants suit you is explained in All-on-4 vs All-on-6 in Turkey.

Bone grafting and sinus lift

After years without teeth the jawbone shrinks. Only a 3D scan shows whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed. Both extend healing time and add cost, in Hungary as in Turkey. A serious offer names this possible extra in advance instead of adding it on site. Mapa Health sends you a plan based on your X-ray before you travel.

The cost difference, calculated fairly

All-on-6 is a large treatment, and that is where the price gap becomes visible. Based on the enquiries Mapa Health receives from the UK, comparable treatment with branded implants and a zirconia bridge costs noticeably more in Hungary than in Turkey. Both are well below UK private fees.

Count two return flights and hotels for each country. With one jaw the difference can stay moderate, with both jaws it is in our experience usually clear. Prices are on our page on All-on-6 in Turkey and in the All-on-6 vs All-on-4 cost comparison. An offer far below the market is a warning sign in either country, especially if the implant brand and bridge material remain vague.

Aftercare and repairs back in the UK

An All-on-6 restoration stays with you for many years. Regular checks and professional cleaning can be done by a private dentist in the UK. Bring your implant passport with the manufacturer, implant type and sizes.

For repairs the brand helps: UK dentists can source parts for Straumann and Nobel Biocare without detours. The NHS treats dental emergencies such as an infection, but does not fund revisions of implant work done abroad. Agree with Mapa Health in writing before treatment how corrections work and who pays for travel.

Who Hungary suits better

Hungary suits you if you prefer the shortest possible flights for two trips and later checks, value a clinic with many years of British patients, or prefer treatment inside the EU. If you can only travel short distances for health reasons, Hungary is also worth considering.

Who Turkey suits better

Turkey suits you if you need both jaws restored, want a final zirconia bridge on branded implants, and the price difference matters to you. Mapa Health, licensed under AK-0456, coordinates the clinic, implant system, transfers and hotel for both trips.

Who should not have All-on-6

All-on-6 is not suitable with untreated gum disease, ongoing bisphosphonate therapy, radiotherapy to the head and neck, or poorly controlled diabetes. Heavy smokers have a higher risk that implants fail to integrate. If you have lost only a few teeth, you do not need a full-arch solution, and single implants or bridges are the better choice. A responsible dentist tells you this in Hungary as well as in Turkey. Our view on the same comparison for cosmetic work is in Veneers Turkey vs Hungary.
